We needed a platform similar to a Facebook Group, but wouldn't require our members to join Facebook as the 1st step. We love that we host the data ourselves, maintain privacy and have features that Facebook would never give us access to. We are able to store files, resources, have discussions. It has made our group exponentially better for our members. Email is a great communication tool, but we needed more engagement within the group and this was the perfect solution.
